KAHI: The Korean Skincare Brand Built Around the Balm Stick
A Seoul-born brand that turned a portable moisturizing stick into a new category of K-beauty skincare.
KAHI is a Korean skincare brand launched in 2020 by Koreatech. It is best known for pioneering the multi-balm stick format — a portable, oil-rich balm that you can apply directly over bare skin or finished makeup, any time of day. Its signature ingredient is a Jeju-fermented botanical oil that, according to the brand, undergoes a 744-hour fermentation process before it reaches the formula.
Who This Is For
If you are new to K-beauty and trying to figure out where a single stick balm fits into a skincare routine, KAHI is a good place to start. The brand built its entire identity around one idea: that a well-formulated balm in a portable stick can work as a real skincare step — not just a finishing gloss or a lip treatment. It suits anyone who wants to add moisture and light wrinkle-care ingredients mid-day without disturbing makeup or adding steps to a morning routine.
The Multi Balm on Kayty sits within a line-smoothing routine, which means it works well for people focused on fine lines, loss of firmness, or general skin plumpness. It is aimed at dry, normal, combination and sensitive skin, but it contains fragrance, so skip it if you have a fragrance allergy; people with particularly oily or blemish-prone skin tend to use it on targeted areas — around the eyes, the corners of the mouth, the neck — rather than all over.
Where KAHI Comes From
Koreatech, founded in 2003 as a distributor of beauty and household products, launched the cosmetics brand KAHI in 2020. The company grew steadily with the conviction that "selling techniques don't work without solid product performance." Before entering skincare, Koreatech had built experience in the beauty device market, which gave the team an unusually technical perspective on how ingredients interact with skin.
The name KAHI was inspired by the Korean alphabet's first and last phonetic elements. Just as King Sejong created the Korean alphabet to be accessible to everyone, KAHI aims to foster a world where beauty is attainable for all. That founding logic — democratizing beauty through simplicity — runs through every product format the brand has released.
The Idea That Made KAHI
KAHI rode the wave of the "untact beauty" (언택트뷰티) trend. While previously sticks were mainly sun creams or quick make-up applicators, the offerings have since been expanded with multi-stick balms for serums, essences, and moisturizers — and that can be credited back to KAHI.
The concept is straightforward: most skincare only gets applied once or twice a day, and a meaningful amount of that benefit is lost to the environment before evening. KAHI's Multi Balm logic is simple. Great skincare ingredients should be applied, enjoyed, and applied again, for maximum absorption and impact throughout the day. That is why KAHI designed the Multi Balm as a take-anywhere chubby stick that looks chic coming in and out of a handbag for mid-day use.
In response to customer feedback such as "I use it too quickly" or "It's hard to scrape out," KAHI developed a refillable container and applied for a patent, setting itself apart from other cosmetics brands. That kind of consumer-driven iteration is central to how Koreatech develops products.
The Ingredient Philosophy
Two things define KAHI's formulation approach: Jeju Island sourcing and a slow fermentation process that the brand will not compromise on.
