AESTURA: The Korean Skincare Brand Built on Pharmaceutical Science
A dermocosmetic line rooted in 40-plus years of sensitive-skin research, from barrier creams to Cica serums.
AESTURA is a Korean skincare brand with pharmaceutical roots going back to 1982, when its predecessor Pacific Pharmaceuticals began researching sensitive skin. Today, under Amorepacific, the brand reports being named Korea's No. 1 selling dermocosmetic facial care brand by Euromonitor International. Its three pillars are barrier support, soothing actives, and formulas built for skin that reacts to almost everything.
Who AESTURA Is For
If your skin flares at the slightest change in weather, stings after a new serum, or never quite recovers between actives, AESTURA was built around you. This Korean skincare brand designs its range around one profile: sensitive skin that needs barrier support. The range is small on purpose, and the formulas lean clinical rather than trendy — a natural consequence of where the brand comes from.
Forty Years of Pharmaceutical Heritage
The company's focus on sensitive skincare dates back to 1982. That year, its predecessor, Pacific Pharmaceuticals, began that work — and unlike typical cosmetic brands, it originated from a pharmaceutical company that initially focused on treatments for skin disorders. For nearly three decades, the work stayed largely in the research pipeline. At a time when the concept of dermocosmetics did not even exist, the company focused on skin-barrier research.
It introduced ATOBARRIER Cream in 2008 as a product sold through hospitals and clinics, and officially launched the AESTURA brand in 2012. In 2021, Amorepacific Corporation absorbed AESTURA through a merger, integrating it as a business unit within the group. According to the brand, the name signals its philosophy: like its etymology related to "estuary," AESTURA represents the confluence of Pacific Pharma's heritage and research capabilities with Amorepacific's cutting-edge skin science.
What Makes It Different: The Derma Lab
AESTURA ties its formulation process to research. According to Amorepacific, more than 470 research papers and over 240 patents accumulated by Derma Lab, Amorepacific's independent research organization, form the foundation of its product design. That body of work covers basic skin research on sensitive and atopic skin — the kind of technical depth that comes from starting in pharmaceuticals rather than beauty retail.
Rooted in the dermocosmetic heritage of Pacific Pharmaceuticals, which began in 1982, and backed by Amorepacific's advanced research expertise, the brand describes itself as Korea's leading authentic K-dermocosmetic brand. AESTURA has been named the "No. 1 Selling Dermocosmetic Facial Care Brand in Korea," according to findings by the global data analytics firm Euromonitor International.
The Hero Lines
AESTURA organizes its range around specific skin concerns, each under a "365" banner — the idea being that the products are designed for everyday, year-round use rather than intensive short-term treatments.
ATOBARRIER365 is the original line and the one that built the brand's reputation. According to the brand, it centers on encapsulated ceramide technology designed to mimic and support the skin's natural lipid structure. Since launching dermatology-focused cosmetics through hospital channels in 2008 and introducing ATOBARRIER365 Cream at Olive Young in 2018, the brand has continued to expand consumer touchpoints, helping bring dermocosmetics into the mainstream.
